Walleye Fishing on Rainy Lake
Walleye Fishing on Rainy Lake - Truly AMAZING!
At Campfire Island Camp, our spring opening is around mid-May, and all of our guests will agree that May- June is one of the premier times to target huge smallmouth bass and giant northern pike. Walleye are a structure-orientated fish, and during June they will be on the move as the water warms up and weed growth accelerates. By late- June and early-July, walleyes will start to gather on open-water weedlines rock reefs. These walleye are now in their summer pattern and do not seem to move from their chosen open-water structure for any length of time. It is not uncommon to find very large schools of walleye roaming these open- water structures, and this is when we begin angling for the huge walleyes that Rainy Lake is so famous for holding.
Many rock reefs will hold schools of 5- 8 pound walleye. By mid-August, the bigger walleye get very aggressive; the schools are huge and right up to the end of September, it is not uncommon to find a feeding school of big walleye that gives fishermen the opportunity to catch many walleye in the 9-12 pound range one right after the other.
Every year, we produce a newsletter that recaps the year at Campfire Island and the awesome smallmouth bass and walleye fishing that our guests have enjoyed on Rainy Lake.
As you read through these newsletters, you will see that the size of the Rainy Lake walleye is truly impressive --- and as you view the pictures in the photo gallery, keep in mind that all these walleye were caught using artificial bait. Jigs tipped with plastic, a variety of jigging spoons, crank baits and jerk baits seem to be the most effective baits. Campfire Island will offer you a unforgetable walleye fishing vacation on Rainy Lake. Book your summer Vacation Today! - You deserve the best Walleye fishing Ontario has to offer.
